Getting Ready for Eid

If you don’t know much about Ramadan you probably don’t know that there’s a big celebration once the fast is over similar to Thanks Giving in the states. This two day long holiday is called Eid (or Id) and though I’m definitely not an expert, it appears that families congregate at the grandparents house, eat a special meal together, take plates of cookies to their friends and family, give new clothes and toys to their kids, and just relax.
In preparation for this big day my housemate and I made a bunch of American cookies. We didn’t have a plan of who to give them to, but just thought it would be good to have a bunch. DSC_0239
I took one plate of cookies to my new friend Nur (her full first name literally means Light of Belief) who runs a small office supply store right by my house. I took them to her the day before the fast was over which isn’t common, but she actually couldn’t do the fast just yet because she’s pregnant (however she will make up for it after she has her baby). She also brought me a plate of homemade Tunisian cookies that her mom made. She informed me that her generation has a new tradition of buying cookies but her mom’s generation still has the tradition of making them.
